The short version
You must be at least 18 to create a 1Presence account. That is a requirement of our terms, not a recommendation, and it applies everywhere we operate.
It applies to every way of using 1Presence, because the limit belongs to the account rather than to any one platform: in a browser at 1presence.com, in the app on iPhone and iPad, and in the app on Android. The apps are the same 1Presence in a native shell — same account, same rules.
Why 18
Not because of what you might see. 1Presence has no content library, no feed and no catalogue — very little of what usually makes something unsuitable for a younger reader.
The reason is access. To be useful, 1Presence connects to the accounts that run an adult life: your email, your calendar, your files, your messages. It can read them, act in them, and send on your behalf. It holds a payment relationship and spends real money on your instruction. Deciding what an assistant with that reach should be allowed to do — and being answerable for what it does — is an adult judgement.
That is a different question from "is this content appropriate", and it is the one that sets our limit.
What the app stores say
The App Store and Google Play each publish their own age rating, and both are calculated from a questionnaire about content — violence, sexual material, gambling, profanity, and so on. Ours comes out low on those measures, so the rating you see on either listing will be lower than 18. Google Play’s figure also varies by country, because it is issued by regional ratings boards.
That is not a contradiction, and neither number overrides our terms. A store rating tells you what you are likely to encounter. Our minimum age tells you who should be making the decisions. Where they disagree, the stricter one is ours, and it is the one that governs your account.
If you use 1Presence in a browser there is no store rating at all — the same 18 applies.
What 1Presence puts in front of you
Stated plainly, and matching what we declare to both stores:
- An assistant that will discuss almost anything — including sensitive subjects: illness, grief, money trouble, conflict at work, the news. It answers in its own voice, and it can be wrong.
- Health and wellbeing questions — it will offer guidance if you ask. It is not a clinician and is not a substitute for one.
- Your own material, read back to you — your mail and documents contain whatever they contain, and the assistant will surface it.
- Pages from the open web — it can fetch a page you ask about. Those pages are not vetted by us. Links you tap open in your own browser, where whatever restrictions you already have in place still apply.
- Things other people share with you — documents and dashboards from other users, and comment threads where you can reply to each other.
What it deliberately has none of
- No advertising — none, of any kind, from anyone.
- No tracking — we never link your data to third-party data for advertising, and never sell or share it with data brokers.
- No social feed — nothing is broadcast, recommended or amplified to an audience. What you share goes to the people you choose.
- No gambling, wagering, loot boxes or randomised purchases.
- No browser inside the app — there is no address bar and no free browsing surface. Links hand off to the browser you already use.
- No sexual or graphic content. The assistant declines it, and the media engines refuse to produce it.
When someone shares something with you
People can share documents and dashboards from 1Presence, and can comment on what they share. Anything you receive that way can be reported by whoever received it — including someone with no account who simply opened a link — and you can block a person outright, which withdraws what they have already sent you as well as anything they send later.
Reporting & moderation explains how a report is handled, what gets removed, and how to appeal a removal you think is wrong.
If a child has an account
We do not knowingly provide 1Presence to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, write to support@1presence.com and we will delete it promptly — the account and the data with it.
You do not need an account of your own to ask, and you do not need to prove anything to us first.
Controls on your device
1Presence has no parental controls of its own, and no age check beyond asking. We would rather say so than imply a safeguard that is not there.
What does work is the controls already on the device, and they work here better than they do in many apps — because 1Presence hands links to your own browser instead of opening a browser inside itself, the restrictions you have already set apply to anything reached from it.
- iPhone and iPad — Screen Time can restrict web content and block installing or using specific apps.
- Android — Family Link and Digital Wellbeing do the same, including approving or blocking installs.
- In a browser — whatever content filtering you run on the device, browser or network applies as usual.
